Tip of the Week – Change standard Object and Field names in Salesforce

Salesforce has a number of powerful tools built into the platform and ready to help streamline your processes. From Leads to Contacts to Cases and beyond, Salesforce’s Standard Objects come with useful fields, helpful automations, and features which would take a lot of work to replicate. But what if your team calls these objects or fields by different names? Maybe you call Cases “tickets” or Opportunities “deals”. It seems pointless to create a Custom Object and pay a lot of money for the features that come standard with the system. Wouldn’t it be great if you could just rename those to meet your needs? You can!

This feature is a bit hidden, but is easy once you get the hang of it. To change the labels for Standard Objects and Fields in Salesforce, simply go to Setup -> Customize -> Tab Names and Labels -> Rename Tabs and Labels. Choose the Tab (or Object) you want to rename and click Edit. Change the singular and plural labels and note if it starts with a vowel sound, then click Next to change labels for the Standard Fields. Now you can work with Companies and Sales with all the built in power of Salesforce! See, wasn’t that easy?
