If you are like most people, then you probably have a number of passwords scattered across many different logins, and you have to remember which goes where. This can be a real headache! It is all too common to get them mixed up or to simply forget what you entered. Maybe you created something new and strange at the spur of the moment, and now you have only 3 chances to get it right before your account is locked out. We have all been there, right? Well, there is a better way to remember your Salesforce Login.
No, I’m not talking about one of the many password saving apps out there, (that is a conversation for another day) I am talking about Lightning Login. This is a handy feature created by Salesforce to help you avoid those pesky login issues. You can create more secure passwords that you won’t have to worry about remembering, and avoid getting locked out. And yes, Lightning Login is available for both Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience!

Opportunity splits are an easy and effective way to share credit among your sales teams. Not every deal is the work of a single person, or even one single sales team. The Opportunity Splits allow everyone involved to get credit for their work, and show it on their revenue reports. Opportunity Splits have been around for quite a while in Salesforce Classic, but just came out for the Lightning Experience with the Spring ‘18 Release
To set up Opportunity splits, an administrator will need to enable them in your system. Once enabled, sharing credit is easy. Simply navigate to the Opportunity Splits section on an Opportunity and fill out the fields. You can credit team members who are directly responsible for opportunity revenue with revenue splits, which always total 100% of the opportunity amount or you can credit supporting team members with overlay splits, which can total any percentage of the opportunity amount, including percentages over 100%.

The Spring ‘18 release of Salesforce is big. Really big! So we have put together a 3 part series to simplify everything and highlight 15 of the top features. Welcome to part 2 of 3 of our guide to a simplified Spring ’18 Salesforce release. If you missed last week’s part 1, you can catch up here. For part 2 … read on!
Gathering quality feedback from clients and customers can be a key to growth and success and a source of giant headaches, all at the same time. While there are a large number of survey apps out there on the AppExchange, as part of the Spring release, Salesforce has created an intuitive survey builder. The easier it is to gather feedback, the better.
The best part about this feature, is that all your survey data is stored in your org, so you can view data, create reports and dashboards, and share insights within your company. This feature is generally available in Classic and Lightning Experience.
Data Privacy and GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)
Coming in May, new regulations in Europe will play a big role in shaping how companies use and collect data on individuals. Salesforce has rolled out a number of changes to help make it easy for you to approach the coming changes and remain compliant. Some specifics are:
- New Objects
- There are many new objects, and particularly the “Individual” object will help companies remain compliant. This object allows tracking of individual customers and their individual preferences and data.
- Delete Log Files
- GDPR states that individuals can request to have their data deleted, so Salesforce has added the ability to delete data, and the associated log files
- Data Privacy Preferences
- Spring ‘18 makes is possible to store specific preference for individuals
- Email Read receipts
- If desired, Salesforce now allows for preventing users from getting read receipts for email messages they send.
- Additional Resources
- Finally, if all of this feels complex, Salesforce has added plenty of resources to help guide you
In last week’s post, we talked about the highly anticipated customization features included in myLightning, which allows users the ability to customize the look and layout of their screens. Another customization feature being added as part of this release is: users can now significantly modify their navigation bar.
In Lightning, you can now add any object, no matter how granular, to your navigation bar. Accounts, Dashboards or even individual records, or whatever object you need easy access to, can now be popped right onto your nav bar. Further navigation bar updates allow you to reorder items, rename or remove items that you’ve added and add temporary tabs for individualized sessions.

What’s not to like about that? All directly in Salesforce.
- Updated Visualforce pages and line selection abilities
- The ability to track the status of background contracting jobs
- Use of the Prorate Multiplier for Order Products
- Customized billing with dynamic invoice plans
- Better tools to manage tax for credit and debit notes
- Improved reporting tools

The introduction of Community Calendars allows users to share and view calendars from their Lightning community. This is a great way to keep in touch with everyone in your community, plan group events and coordinate meetings. The details of your calendar are also customizable, so if you don’t want to see it on the side panel, no problem. Finally, you can choose who sees your calendar and add the calendars of other team members that you want to view. Simple but effective.
That rounds it up for today’s installment. We hope you learned something and will see you here next week for the final installment of Simplifying Salesforce Spring ‘18!

Is the combination of documents, notes and attachments slowing you down? Is it unwieldy to manage the different file types when you need data fast? If so, you may want to consider moving from Salesforce Classic to Lightning Experience. One the highlights of Lightning, is the switch from notes and attachments to Salesforce Files. In fact, Salesforce is betting on you liking it so much, that they haven’t given you any other options for document types. Gone are the days where you attach multiple file types to a related record. We are now in the era of Salesforce Files.
So what are Files exactly? Files is a document organization system that converts all documents, attachments, and notes into a Salesforce File. Functionality wise, they are a lot like Google Docs. Salesforce Files are shareable, editable and make it easy for your team to manage all of their important information. What’s more, Files are shared and stored in a folder library system, keeping everything organized in a single location. In short, files do more and provide greater functionality than simple attachments. Though this switch may take time for some users to adopt, the upside of using Files should be more than worth the effort.
