If This Then That

If you’re an admin, or even a time-crunched developer, the idea of integration probably sets your head spinning. APIs are hard to master and getting two systems to talk to each other just right can be a nightmare. If you’re a clicker and not a coder, the farthest you probably thought you’d ever go with integration is setting up Salesforce-to-Salesforce. But what if I told you that you could integrate Salesforce Chatter with your Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, your blog, Reddit, and more with just a couple clicks? You’d probably think I’ve had a few too many long nights chasing down a rogue null pointer exception. You’d be wrong. IFTTT has your back, and the possibilities are nearly endless!

IFTTT (If This Then That) is a service that lets you create powerful connections with one simple statement. Channels are the basic building blocks of IFTTT. Each Channel has its own Triggers and Actions. The this part of a Recipe is a Trigger. Some example Triggers are “I’m tagged in a photo on Facebook” or “I check in on Foursquare.” The that part of a Recipe is an Action. Some example Actions are “send me a text message” or “create a status message on Facebook.”

IFTTT is a free service. Sign up today and check it out! If you need some ideas for how to leverage IFTTT with Salesforce, Salesforce Hacker Adam Torman has a great write-up on his blog here.
